The Grand Canyon

It is difficult to understand the presence of water in the desert, but it is the brilliant blue color of the waterfalls that is most surprising.

Annual rainfall in Arizona is less than 203 millimeters. This is not good for those who enjoy water activities, but it is excellent for those who enjoy stargazing. The best time of year to observe the sky is during the meteor shower that happens in October, known as the Orionid.

Narrow canyons

Hiking through one of Arizona’s canyons is the experience that most resembles visiting another planet. The deep, narrow trenches were carved by water, which shaped the rock formations, usually sandstone and limestone, over millennia. As some trenches are very narrow, it is common for them to concentrate beams of soft light. Although most canyons are found along the roads of northern Arizona, it is possible to find canyons that are inaccessible to the public on the Navajo Reservation. Monument Valley

The red mounds that rise from the sands of Monument Valley look like records carved by some mythical goddess. Monument Valley is part of the region known as the Four Corners, where Arizona, Utah, Colorado, and New Mexico meet, a semi-autonomous region of Navajo, Hopi, Ute, and Zuni reservations.

The Saguaro Cactus

The saguaro cactus is virtually synonymous with the Arizona desert. In my opinion, they should be present on the state flag. Saguaros are large and grow slowly, reaching over 20 meters in height. Its branches can appear only after 100 years. Many birds make their nests inside its trunks, which resemble ordinary trees, and indigenous peoples have known the value of its fruits for centuries. These cacti are found in the unique Saguaro National Park.

Arizona Strip and Vermillion Cliffs

Between Utah and the Grand Canyon, the region known as the Arizona Strip is one of the most remote in the state. It is difficult to reach the place, but its natural beauty makes the trip worthwhile. The place is home to a small population of condors and is famous for the Vermilion Cliffs, which look like a gigantic staircase leading toward the Colorado plateau.
