Who hasn’t dreamed of traveling like royalty, sleeping in some of the most expensive suites in the world, and eating in five-starred restaurants? The US is known for having high standards when it comes to accommodation. So we’ve put together a list of the best luxury hotels in the United States. Planning a luxury trip? So, enjoy!
Four Seasons Resort Hualalai
The pristine Four Seasons, the only five-pearl property on the Big Island, is unlike any other resort on the Kohala Coast. Lush and landscaped gardens surround bungalow-style private rooms and suites tucked along meandering paths throughout the grand property.
Also, the thoughtfully designed architecture, pools (all seven of them), and public spaces are indulgent without seeming overwhelming. On-site dining options are few in number but of high quality. The service is excellent and the experience is top-notch down to the last detail. This is a great option if you are looking for luxury hotels.
Waldorf Astoria Chicago
Gold Coast, Chicago
The Waldorf-Astoria offers top-of-the-line luxury in Chicago. With an intimate, boutique feel — but all the amenities of a grand hotel — the 188-room Waldorf caters for leisure and business. Elegant rooms feature neutral tones and contemporary furnishings. In addition to stunning marble bathrooms that offer separate showers and bathtubs, as well as TVs built into the mirrors.
Highlights include the upscale Balsan restaurant, an upscale spa, and full-service health club and an indoor pool. Additionally, the hotel’s location in the upscale Gold Coast neighborhood puts you within walking distance of malls, dining, and attractions.
The Peninsula Beverly Hills
Beverly Hills/Bel Air, Beverly Hills
The Peninsula Beverly Hills earns a five-pearl rating, but as one of the best luxury hotels in Beverly Hills, and perhaps in all of Los Angeles, that might be an understatement.
In addition, thanks to its attentive staff that discreetly cater to the rich and famous, its status as a luxury destination has been constant since its opening in the early 1990s. Dining is top-notch, the rooftop pool is parkland from A-list, and the spa uses massage oils infused with diamonds.
Calistoga Ranch, Auberge Resorts Collection
Calistoga, Napa County
No wonder royalty, a roster of celebrities and athletes keep coming back to luxury Calistoga Ranch. Guests rent exquisite private lodgings, set in a 157-acre, privately owned parkland complete with hiking trails and a top-of-the-line restaurant and spa. The attention to detail is carried over from bedroom design to landscape planning – all modules for the stores were transported by helicopter to minimize the impact on surrounding trees and to maximize privacy.
The property has an abundance of activities, including outdoor yoga, a beautiful heated outdoor pool, a bocce ball court, a fabulous fitness center, and wine tasting seminars. If customers decide to venture out for some reason, they can easily access downtown Calistoga and other cities, not only with borrowed bicycle beds but borrowed Mercedes-Benz! This luxury hotel stands out as one of the most notablenot just in Napa Valley, but across the entire country.
The Jefferson, Washington DC
Centro, Washington DC
After a massive renovation in 2009, this boutique reopened and regained its place among DC’s elite hotels. It’s not as famous as the Hay-Adams, but its subtle blend of technology (TVs built into bathroom mirrors; electronic cleaning buttons) and colonial charms (intimate library, working dumbwaiter) are unique.
The Lodge at Sea Island
Saint Simons Island, Golden Isles of Georgia
The 40-room total, Luxury Lodge at Sea Island is on the site of an old cotton plantation. Which can be accessed through an avenue of historic antebellum oak trees dripping with Spanish moss. Outside, the lodge resembles an English mansion; inside, it feels like a 1920s-style golf or hunting club, with personal butlers delivering milk and cookies to bedrooms. Golfers will be in heaven, but there are plenty of non-golf-centric activities, too.
Rooms are huge and packed with amenities — some have balconies with beautiful views of the St. Simons Sound. Listen to the night piper who performs at sunset. Guests should note that some features — such as the beach, spa, and pool — are located at the sister property, The Cloister, which is too far to walk to; however, there is a free roundtrip shuttle service. If you enjoy luxury hotels, put this one on your list.
The Landing Resort & Spa
South Lake Tahoe, Lake Tahoe (California)
With elegant villa decor and a host of amenities, the Landing Resort & Spa offers a luxurious stay across from a private beach on Lake Tahoe and close to Heavenly Village and the Stateline casinos. Its 77 elegant rooms have fireplaces, mini-fridges, Keurig coffee machines, private balconies or patios (some with lake views), and luxurious bathrooms with heated floors and toilet seats.
There’s a restaurant that serves Greek and California food and has a beautiful patio overlooking the lake, though there are reports of slow service. And for a dose of pampering, guests can head to the on-site spa, which has a sauna and steam room, and there’s also an outdoor pool with a hot tub. The fees are expensive, however, plus there’s a mandatory resort fee covering facilities and services like Wi-Fi and valet parking.
Waldorf Astoria Las Vegas
The Strip, Las Vegas
A new breed of Las Vegas luxury, with 392 elegant rooms and some of Vegas’ best service, the Mandarin Oriental is a quiet retreat on the glitzy Strip. The hotel lacks the characteristic excess that many people come to Las Vegas for (including a casino), opting for a more restrained approach. You will find a beautiful spa, two fine-dining restaurants, a tranquil pool, meeting space, and the rarest of Las Vegas presents – Serenity. But City Center’s convenient location means easy access to all the excess you want.
W South Beach
South Beach, Flórida
The impressive 312-room W South Beach — located on the beach on the northern outskirts of South Beach — combines beautiful comfort, intricate design (that spares no expense), and impeccable service. Large and modern rooms; angled terraces for ocean views; elegant landscaping around the pool; a lush Bliss spa – the W tops the great Miami. This is definitely one of the best luxury hotels in the country.
Midtown West, New York City
The century-old, 282-room Plaza is a New York landmark. A $400 million overhaul in 2008 gave the huge gold-plated bathroom fixtures rooms. It also converted most rooms overlooking Central Park into private residences. Still, the exceptional spa and 24-hour butler service are worth the break.
Little Palm Island Resort & Spa, The Noble House Resort
Little Torch Key, Lower Keys
Accessible only by boat or seaplane, Little Palm Island Resort & Spa is located on a private island, where wild key deer roam. It includes 30 luxury suites, many with private oceanfront balconies. A favorite getaway for celebrities, it provides a secluded place to disconnect from the world (use of technology is discouraged) and experience a romantic vacation in a lush, tropical setting.
