The history of the Miami Carnival

Miami Carnival is an annual event that celebrates the Afro-Caribbean culture and heritage of Miami. The carnival was first started in 1959 by a group of Cuban exiles who wanted to recreate the carnival atmosphere they had left behind in their homeland. The carnival has since grown into a city-wide celebration that attracts people from all over the world.

The Miami Carnival is held every October and features a parade, live music, food, and costumes. The parade features floats and dancers decked out in colorful costumes. The live music is provided by steel drum bands and there are usually food vendors selling Caribbean cuisine.

What to expect?

In Miami, the Carnival season begins in October and ends on Fat Tuesday, the day before Ash Wednesday. The largest and most well-known Carnival celebration in Miami is the Miami Broward One Carnival, which features two weeks of events leading up to a grand parade on the last Sunday of the Carnival season. Other smaller celebrations take place throughout the city during Carnival season.

Along the Carnival, revelers can expect to see vibrant costumes, lively music, and delicious food from all over the Caribbean. The streets are filled with people dancing and celebrating. Miami Carnival 2022 schedule

The 2022 Miami Carnival will take place on October 8-9 and October 15-16. The parade will take place on Saturday, October 8th, starting at noon at NW 14th Avenue and NW 54th Street. The route will travel east on 54th Street to NW 7th Avenue, south on 7th Avenue to Flagler Street, west on Flagler Street to Biscayne Boulevard, and north on Biscayne Boulevard back to 54th Street.

Live music will be performed throughout the carnival grounds on both Saturdays and Sundays. There will be food and drink vendors selling Caribbean cuisine as well as traditional fair foods like funnel cakes and ice cream. There will also be arts & crafts vendors selling handmade jewelry, paintings, woodcarvings, and more.

The 38th Miami Carnival, one of the biggest celebrations of Caribbean culture in the world and the biggest in the US, takes place during Columbus Day Weekend. The festivities begin on Friday, October 7th in Broward County, followed by events at the Miami-Dade County Fairgrounds on October 8th and 9th. This exuberant feast of steel drums, rhinestone-encrusted costumes, and Caribbean spice aromas are just a few of the delights that await you. Check the schedule:

• Sunday, October 9 – 11 am until late into the night –  Band Parade and Concert + Costume Parade – Miami-Dade County Fairgrounds.
