This year’s playoffs will be especially exciting, as there are a number of new changes that have been implemented. These changes include a new points system, a new race format, and new venues. Whether you’re a diehard fan or just getting into the sport, here’s everything you need to know about this year’s NASCAR playoffs.
All about the 2022 NASCAR Cup
Assuming the 2021 NASCAR Cup Series season went off without a hitch, the 2022 campaign is one to remember. For starters, it’s the first time since 1949 that the Cup Series visited dirt tracks for a pair of races at Bristol Motor Speedway. The other big change on the schedule is the return of road course racing to Nashville Super speedway, which last hosted NASCAR in 1984.
As for the playoff format, it will remain largely unchanged from this year. The first three rounds (the Regular Season Championship, Round of 16 and Round of 12) will each consist of three races. The field will be whittled down to eight drivers for the final round (the Round of 8), which features four races. The Championship 4 finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway will again be a winner-take-all affair.
So mark your calendars and start making your travel plans now! The 2022 NASCAR Cup Series season is shaping up to be one you won’t want to miss.
