Opa-locka Executive Airport to Palm Beach Corporate Roadshow Logistics
Three bridges reach Palm Beach island and every one of them is a drawbridge. The middle one keeps a different schedule from the other two — which is the lever a professional actually has.

A roadshow booking retains one vehicle and one chauffeur for the day rather than pricing each leg. Send the meeting list; dispatch returns a sequence timed against the island bridge schedules, a vehicle recommendation and a flat hourly rate including tolls in under 10 minutes. The chauffeur meets the aircraft at your Opa-locka FBO. The run north is roughly sixty-five miles, so the departure time is set by the bridges rather than by the distance.
Three Bridges, Two Timetables
There is no fixed span onto Palm Beach island. Every arrival crosses a bascule bridge, and the openings follow published schedules rather than the whim of traffic.
- Flagler Memorial and Southern Boulevard. Both open on the quarter hour and the three-quarter hour.
- Royal Park runs on the hour and the half. Its schedule is offset from the other two, which is what makes it useful.
- Rush hour halves the openings. On weekday mornings and late afternoons each bridge opens once an hour instead of twice.
Timing an arrival to miss a lift
Because the three schedules are published and the middle one is offset, a chauffeur who knows the minutes can plan an approach that arrives between openings. A driver who does not simply joins the queue.
It is five to eight minutes per lift. On a day with a lunch on the island and an afternoon meeting on the mainland, that is the whole margin.
Getting north without the interchange
The default route from the executive airport is I-95, which means the Golden Glades. That interchange is in the middle of a reconstruction programme running to the end of the decade.
For this run we generally take the Turnpike instead and pay the toll. It is a genuine operational choice rather than a preference, and the toll is inside the quoted rate.
Worth Avenue does not have a porte-cochere
The avenue runs on short metered bays with a three-hour cap, plus two valet lots off the street. There is no arrangement that lets a car sit outside a long lunch.
So the vehicle stages and returns on a call time, and for larger vehicles the town requires a permit, which we arrange rather than leaving you to discover it.
The season, and what it does to the bridges
Palm Beach has a defined season roughly from November to April, and the island’s capacity does not change to meet it.
- Boat show, March. Held on Flagler Drive in West Palm Beach, directly across the water; it loads every bridge approach at once.
- The February art and antiques show. At the county convention centre on Okeechobee Boulevard, feeding the Royal Park approach.
- The equestrian season, January to April. In Wellington, roughly fifteen miles inland — it drives island-to-Wellington demand rather than island congestion.
There is also the unscheduled kind: dignitary movements on the island close South Ocean Boulevard at short notice and put the bridges on modified schedules. We monitor it on the day and reroute rather than sitting in it.
How the Day Actually Runs
Why a Long Transfer Is Still Booked as a Day
Sixty-five miles each way makes the per-ride arithmetic look attractive until you count what happens between the meetings.
The return leg is the one that fails
Sourcing a vehicle on Palm Beach island at 6pm to run back to the executive airport is a different proposition from sourcing one in Brickell. The supply is not there, and the bridges are between it and you.
A retained vehicle removes the question. It also means the outbound and the return are one price agreed in advance rather than two exposures.
Where the aircraft should actually land
If your aircraft fits it, Boca Raton’s executive field is far closer to the northern end of this run than Opa-locka is, and Palm Beach International is closer still to the island. We will say so.
Wingspan limits constrain what can use the smaller field, so it is a question for your flight department rather than a blanket recommendation. Either way we would rather you knew.
Fleet and Cabin
The island’s permit rules make vehicle size a planning question rather than a comfort one. Executive SUV, Luxury Sedan and Sprinter Van cover almost every island-appropriate configuration and run off the same dispatch board.
| Vehicle | Passengers | Luggage | Best suited for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Luxury Sedan | Up to 3 | 2 large, 2 carry-on | One or two principals; simplest on the island’s streets |
| Executive SUV | Up to 6 | 5 large | Team keeping materials and luggage in the cabin on a long day |
| Sprinter Van | Up to 12 | 12 large | Delegation moving together; permit arranged where the town requires one |
Send the headcount and the island addresses — dispatch sizes the vehicle, handles the permit where one is needed and returns the price, tolls included, in under 10 minutes.
Cabins run with bottled water, charging for both connector types and climate set before pickup. Turnpike tolls for the run north are inside the quoted rate rather than added afterwards.
Operational Certainty
Six things that decide whether a Palm Beach day holds its schedule.
Arrivals timed against three published bridge schedules
The northbound route chosen to avoid the interchange rebuild
The car is on the ramp before the aircraft blocks in
Town permits arranged in advance for the larger vehicles
Hours and tolls in one flat written rate — no surge, no meter
Dispatch staffed 24/7 while the day is running
Questions We Get Most
Do the bridges really matter that much?
They are the most predictable delay on the route. All three island bridges are drawbridges on published schedules: two open on the quarter and three-quarter hour, and Royal Park on the hour and the half. During weekday rush windows each opens once an hour. Timing the approach against those minutes is worth five to eight minutes a crossing.
Which way do you drive north?
Usually the Turnpike rather than I-95, and we pay the toll to skip the Golden Glades Interchange, which is under a reconstruction programme running to the end of the decade. The toll is inside the flat rate, not added afterwards.
Can a large vehicle work on the island?
Often yes, but the town requires a permit for buses and we arrange it in advance. For most delegations a Sprinter or two SUVs is the cleaner answer on the island’s streets, with larger vehicles kept to the mainland legs.
How long should we allow for the transfer?
Plan on the wide end and let us build the buffer. It is roughly sixty-five miles with an interchange rebuild in the middle and a drawbridge at the end, so we quote a realistic range rather than a single number we cannot guarantee.
